After a long absence Balkan acoustic melodicists Luna Kalamata are getting back together to play the Gillespie Park festival in North London in September. Luna Kalamata formed to play music that they loved from Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and the Balkans. Later we added Klezmer and other music to the repertoire.
Luna Kalamata are a large band: Cigdem sings and plays percussion; Mutsumi plays violin; Tommo plays mandolo; Issy plays clarinet; Phil (that’s me) plays acoustic bass guitar; Fotis plays percussion and Patrick plays Darbucka.
For the forthcoming gig Eleni will guest on vocals.
You can hear Luna Kalamata at their myspace page and if you look on youtube there area lot of videos available.
They are an exciting live band who play with a lot of heart. Every gig has been received with acclaim and it’s been a while since they have played together. The Gillespie Park gig is likely to be a wonderful event.
Entrance is free, it’s on Sunday September the 13th (2-5 pm) in Gillespie Park near Highbury stadium. Details to follow!
